I don't mean epic as the recent internet "epic" but epic as in literary epic: this sense of majestic depictions that capture impressive struggles, such as stories of war, adventures, and other efforts of great scope and size over long periods of time.

I've wanted to make this thread for a while now but the thing is I'm not proficient in this kind of music, so maybe /mp3/ can help and post some songs they like.

This is the kind of songs that usually appear in movie soundtracks. Those songs that make you feel awesome. Influenced by fantasy or mythology. Anything goes, really.

Perfect, that one's a classic.

Just leaving this one here for today. Now that I'm thinking about it, pretty much every second song could fit in here, so just post those songs that make you feel awesome, like you could take on a horde of millions of orcs or something.

Does this count? Probably one of the only english bands i even like (too bad they've broken up apparently..)

Hearing this in Halo 2 when i went back and played it after a few years was cool, it played during a pretty action packed sequence too.

Actually, i just checked, and they're only on hiatus due to an illness.

Even better, they've released an album i didn't have yet!

That's form Peer Gynt's suite! Have you read the book/play by Ibsen? Peer Gynt is one one of my most beloved characters EVER... ok, now contributing:

This and the next one are two of my most favourites epic songs; they were composed for The Last of the Mohicans OST (not a bad movie, from an average book). Trevor Johns is has apparently recognized the strong influence of Carl Orff in his own works; and, happily, it shows. He isn't that known as Williams or Danny Eifman, thought; but I personally think he's a superb composer. he's got so much guts... I'd love to play like that.

Nothing like Touhou prog metal to make me feel like slaying dragons.

This is the pinnacle of achievement in the history of human artistry. There's meaning to life in knowing such things can exist. If everyone in the world were to listen to these, I'm certain the world would become a better place. Absolutely amazing.

Great movie too.

because everyone who hasn't been living under a rock and their mother knows about those movies and have heard the soundtrack. Try posting something that not even facebook-using teens know about and use to project how "nerdy" they are.

An epic song (>20 minutes) concerning parts of the famous epic, The Odyssey. The vocalist in the beginning is fantastic and sets up this Yes/ELP-esque musical adventure.
